Wavering
February 16th, 2009 by Derrick DePledgeState Sen. Clarence Nishihara, D-18th (Waipahu, Crestview, Pearl City), said today that he is taking a longer look at the bill to legalize civil unions.
Nishihara, a retired educator, said he is still leaning in favor of the bill but wants to know whether there might be implications in the prison system or to financial matters like workers’ compensation and state worker retirement benefits for same-sex partners.
Nishihara said he received an e-mail that raised questions about how civil unions would be handled by the prison system.
“I’m still leaning `yes,’ but if you see me wavering, these are the reasons why,” he said.
The state Senate Judiciary and Government Operations Committee is split 3 to 2 in favor of civil unions, with state Sen. Robert Bunda, D-22nd (North Shore, Wahiawä), undecided.
Opponents of civil unions, meanwhile, have started to increase the pressure.
This flyer is being sent around Nishihara’s district. (Hat tip to Peter Kay for the link, via Twitter).
Act now, or it will be too late. Senator Nishihara is hoping you won’t notice what he and his friends are trying to do, by undermining our society’s long-held values and twisting our morality.
This is a radical experiment which will harm your children and their children, for generations to come.
This has nothing to do with `rights.’ However, it has everything to do with promoting the radical homosexual agenda and confusing your kids into thinking homosexuality is just another lifestyle, equal with traditional marriage.
This bill and these people must be stopped NOW. Otherwise, what are we teaching our keiki? We should be protecting our keiki instead of confusing them and exposing them to harm.
For the record, the blurb in the flyer attributed to the Advertiser is incorrect. None of the paper’s news articles on the bill had the sentence: “Under the political nickname civil unions, gay marriage would become legal in Hawaii, with marriage ceremonies presided over by a member of the clergy, a judge, or a retired judge.”
We’re also pretty skeptical about the blurb from The Gay Guide to Miami. The blurb claims Nishihara can be counted on to make Hawai’i a “gay paradise like San Francisco.”
Eric Ryan, an `Ewa Beach conservative activist who has done similar flyers in the past, said the flyer does not sound familiar. “That one honestly doesn’t ring a bell,” he said.
Ryan, however, said he and others staged sign-waving in Nishihara’s and Bunda’s districts over the weekend opposing civil unions.
A rally for traditional marriage, sponsored by the Hawaii Family Forum, is planned for Sunday afternoon at the state Capitol.
Nishihara said he will not be swayed by pressure like the flyer. “That flyer is not persuasive to me,” he said.
*Update: Ryan, in an e-mail and a comment below, says part of his work was included in the flyer, although he says he's not sure how.

Aloha, Derrick:
Thanks for the heads up and for sending the link while I was out riding today. Good talking to you!
BTW, someone else forwarded me an e-mail which links to this new site.
You're right, it looks like my work since parts of it were my work (pro
bono) for anti-gay wedding folks who have been campaigning in Bunda and Nishihara's district. I just got home so I don't know the details of the web stuff yet. But it's clear to me that portions of the signwaving banner and Photoshop flyer for door-to-door that I helped work on has been majorly augmented and converted into a website. Interesting technique. Sometime soon I'll have to get the lowdown and the skinny on how.
Anyway, we'll be busy continuiing to signwave and visit homes in the weeks ahead in hopes that Bunda and Nishihara remember what it means to represent the constituents of a district rather than representing special interest lobbyists down at the Legislature.
It's really funny how things change from one campaign to the next. One minute Keith Rollman's pro-rail website firepanos.wordpress.com is breathlessly spreading the word that I'm some gay porn star and now this morning I read a couple places online that I'm a homophobe for not being thrilled about two dudes having a wedding. Now I know how Cec Heftel must have felt.
Thanks again for letting me know about the website. With all the crazy issues, it sounds like you'll be having some fun at this year's legislature.
Happy Presidents Day,
ERIC
P.S. Stay tuned for very exciting news in the weeks ahead on the Impeach Mufi campaign. I'll make sure you hear it first.

Wow, the Miami Gay Guide really is counting on Taniguchi, Takamine and Nishihara... yummmmy!
http://gayguidemiami.com/family/gay-marriage/civil-unions-in-hawaii-may-be-determined-by-one-legislator
Way to go, out-of-state Homosexual Agenda!
We'll take all the back-up we can get... hehe!
Today the Hawaii lawmakers are recruited to our team, tomorrow NA KEIKI!
We the enlightened all know that gay weddings must be taught to all publicly educated Hawaii Keiki as equal to marriage between a man and a woman.
Screw tradition... just not traditionally!
Who cares what the overwhelming majority of Hawaii parents believe.
Since we can't reproduce through natural means we need new laws that we can spread what we know is best into the minds of Hawaii's youngest and most vulnerable.
We'll show those moral-bigots who only care about raising their children the way they see best that men solemnized to men and women solemnized to women are better... because Hawaii is pretty dumb and easy legal pickings. (Hawaii's slower than normal lawmakers bit hook, line and sinker all that equality PR bull, even though reciprocal benefits already grants inheritance rights, workers compensation, the right to sue for wrongful death, health insurance and pension benefits for state employees, hospital visitation, and health-care decision-making.)
And thank YOU, Blake Oshiro for introducing HB444... May you have many offspring and may all your fabulous dreams come true!

Keep in mind, Ryan is the GOP that says the rest of the GOP is messed up.
February 17th, 2009 at 7:51 am
Hmmm. The anonymous, lie-filled flyer. The quintessential tool of the cowardly scumbag.
February 17th, 2009 at 8:43 am
Earl: Agreed.
February 17th, 2009 at 11:09 am
Earl, Hipoli and Ciao . . . we're still waiting for you three to come out of the closet of anonymous posters. Are you worried that your shift manager at McDonald's won't put you on next week's fry cook schedule if your names and controversial stands become public knowledge? C'mon, where's your guts??
February 17th, 2009 at 11:32 am
Yup and how does Eric Ryan respond to accusations of being negative? By going negative...
Cant wait to see how much of a idiot the impeach Mufi effort will make him look like...
February 17th, 2009 at 11:34 am
Im not the SCUM attacking a good man. Im the good woman attacking SCUM.
And I would proudly stand next to the hard-working men and women of McDonalds, if that was meant as a put-down, You Jerk.
February 17th, 2009 at 11:53 am
More anonymous personal attacks from friends and employees of Mufi. Can you go back to doing your taxpayer funded jobs now? Hipoli, your friends probably won't tell you, but I will: Your martyrdom routing is getting stale.
February 17th, 2009 at 12:26 pm
Oh silly Eric... what do you know about politics?!
Some brave sister needs to gag you with a pink feathered boa, throw a french cut muumuu on you, rename you Maria-Lani and put you through the Lingle school of bi-polar androgynous political success...
...and leave Mufi out of this one... or else Keith Rollman will have to take all the 'shots' for the big intimidating Polynesian that everyone's so SO scared of, and have to enjoy it like he always does
BIG time!
Jeffrey says, "Shup yo mouf!"
And if I find out you had anything to do with that "protectourkeiki.com" site, you'd better believe San Francisco will send more reinforcements dressed just like gay pride pictures on that site, straight to all the elementary schools where you live!
February 17th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
Please- by all means Eric let the hate and fear mongering continue. Please keep the religious bigotry and homophobic rantings of the closeted and the zealots in the public eye. Only when you turn enough stomachs with your disgustingly parochial fanaticism will civil rights prevail among the rational majority that detest your message of bigotry.
February 17th, 2009 at 1:40 pm
Point, Andy. Nothin' but net, baby.
February 17th, 2009 at 1:42 pm
Eric: EVERYONE will tell you - your hate-filled, egotistical inspired (Look at MEEEEEEE!) computer antics are whats really stale. You dont do these things because you actually believe in it - you do it for the attention it gets you. Thats the ultimate in pathetic loser.
I dont know Mufi, so youre wrong. But I do know Senator Nishihara. And hes a good, decent man who does not deserve what you and your fellow scumpuppies are doing.
February 17th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
Yeah Eric, hipoli is right... EVERYONE tells you this... you have no beliefs, period.
All the parents working multiple jobs who care about their young children being taught that the solemnization of same-sex couples is just like normal couples wish you wouldn't have sign waved and drawn all that attention to such a cause.
We're here and we're going to teach all the Keiki of Hawaii our enlightened ways of gay pride no matter what!
GO TEAM!
February 17th, 2009 at 2:14 pm
The GOP bench is so shallow and yet Mr. Ryan still fails to achieve traction.
Wait for the pivot on Lingle and certain members of her cabinet by Eric et al.
Does this issue pose the possibility of schism between Lingle and Aiona?
Perhaps Lingle can use her resulting disgust with the slack-jawed troglodytes that comprise the GOP base to jump to the Dems.
What would 2010 look like then?
February 17th, 2009 at 2:23 pm
Well, Eric, I wasn't directing my cowardly scum comment at you. You said you didn't know about how your stuff got on the flyer, so I figured I'd believe you. Yeah, that's right - I figured I'd give you the benefit of the doubt.
But now, well gee! I guess you're taking offense and throwing down at me, so now you're saying that was your flyer?
February 17th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
This statement made by Eric Ryan is totally false:
"It's really funny how things change from one campaign to the next. One minute Keith Rollman's pro-rail website firepanos.wordpress.com is breathlessly spreading the word that I'm some gay porn star and now this morning I read a couple places online that I'm a homophobe."
I have nothing to do with the firepanos.wordpress.com site he mentions, but he continues to spread false information about my involvement. I have never insinuated that Mr. Ryan is either a gay porn star or a homophobe. He is, however, a chronic liar.
February 17th, 2009 at 5:31 pm
Hey, what happened to Keith Rollman's personal attack on yours truly that he posted here just a few minutes ago? Did he forget that you can't use City resources (computer, salaries, etc.) to do political hatchetjobs on taxpayer time? Maybe he can just go back to posting on the infamous FirePanos site.
February 17th, 2009 at 6:04 pm
Boy, civility and tolerance is really the hallmark of these blogs, eh?
February 18th, 2009 at 6:46 am
Correcting the record isn't a "political hatchet job," Eric.
Every time I find you floating your missinformation using my name I will correct it. Get used to it.
February 18th, 2009 at 7:37 am
But it's the mostest fun we've ever had!
February 18th, 2009 at 2:43 pm
Sounds like Keith Rollman likes fudge.
Or maybe he's just misunderstood...........
Rollman walks into a bar and says to the bartender 10 shots of whiskey.
The bartender asks, "What's the matter?"
Rollman says, "I found out my brother is gay and marrying my best friend."
The next day Rollman comes in and orders 12 shots of whiskey.
The bartenders asks, "What's wrong this time?"
Rollman says, "I found out that my son is gay."
The next day Rollman comes in the bar and orders 15 shots of whiskey.
Then the bartender asks, "Doesn't anyone in your family like women?"
Rollman looks up and says, "Apprently my wife does."
February 18th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
Looks like one of Eric's other psychotic personalities has taken over again.
February 18th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
ATTN: Keith "Bongo" Rollman and Keith "KailuaResident" Rollman. Unlike you, I always sign my own name here. The only psychotic presence I'm sensing is a minor league City Hall brownnoser.
February 19th, 2009 at 6:19 am
Oh c'mon Eric, there you go again with that lying problem. When you're cornered who stoop to your usual combination of false diversionary accusations and gay innuendo.
I also think it's pretty ironic (and stupid) for you to bring up using other people's names. In your latest entry I noticed your use of an unusual gramatical device, that of putting made up nicknames in quotes inside someone's name. This device also appeared on a phoney email sent to various city employees and media last September. You know the one, it was sent from a URL in an office you shared with John Carroll at the time. It was signed by Keith "K-Y" Rollman, and prattled on about how proud we were of that stupid web site that you are obsessed with crediting to me. I didn't write that obviously forged email, but when I get done everone will know who did.
In your quest to be the next Lee Atwater you seemed to be stuck on the befuddled buffoon level.
February 19th, 2009 at 8:58 am
Oh, the famous Rollmanesque quotes. Obviously used as an homage to your infamous technique when proudly promoting your FirePanos website. Well, you wanted the credit for the site and its harsh and deviant methods, so now everyone credits you . . . and deservedly.
February 19th, 2009 at 10:34 am
By the way, Keith "Bob Shrum" Rollman, what are your plans for the GoRailGo website that you registered the same day as your other GoRailGo website just before the launch of the GoRailGo campaign? Also, did you know that it's against the law to LIE to voters in taxpayer funded propaganda, such as those City pro-rail ads? Did you pen those ads? Was that woman's voice yours?
February 19th, 2009 at 10:35 am
And this little dust-up between you two (Rollman and Ryan) has WHAT to do with the topic above? Why don't the two of you do us all a favor and settle your differences elsewhere?
February 19th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
Sometimes angry, self-hating, closeted homosexuals feel compelled to hate and demonize other gays in order to avoid facing a reality they can't come to grips with.
