ILWU backs Anderson's Council bid
March 17th, 2009 by Peter BoylanHawaii's largest private sector union has endorsed J. Ikaika Anderson's candidacy to replace former City Council member Barbara Marshall.
Anderson, a longtime Marshall aide who is endorsed by her husband, is one of eleven candidates who filed for the special election being held to replace her.
ILWU Oahu Division Director Dave Mori said in a statement that Anderson is the best candidate to continue Marshall's work, due to his experience as Marshall’s Senior Legislative Assistant for the past six years.
“Hawaii’s working families need a candidate with youth and enthusiasm who will put people first. We are well aware of Ikaika’s strong commitment to the people in his community as a fourth generation Windward resident. Ikaika has shown great leadership—and we believe he’s the best candidate for the job,” said Mori.
