Quarters

October 16th, 2009 by Derrick DePledge

Quarterly fundraising reports are out in the campaign for Congress in CD1, and Honolulu City Councilman Charles Djou did better than former congressman Ed Case over the past three months.

Djou raised $60,500 between July and September and has brought in $184,100 overall for his Republican campaign.

Case raised $41,400 during the quarter and has collected $168,700 overall, which includes a $25,000 personal loan to his Democratic campaign.

State Senate President Colleen Hanabusa, D-21st (Nänäkuli, Mäkaha), who is running against Case in the Democratic primary, just announced her campaign this month and does not have a fundraising report.

Case said he expects the pace of fundraising and other campaign activity to heat up over the next few months now that Hanabusa has officially entered the race.

"I think people are starting to focus on this race a lot more, and that's good," Case said.

Djou received some national help during the quarter from the National Republican Congressional Committee, which listed Djou in its Young Guns program.

Djou said the combination of the poor economy and the number of competitive campaigns in Hawaii in 2010 has made raising money a challenge. "The economy stinks," he said. "It is difficult to raise money in this environment."

    "The economy stinks," he said.

Remember that, Charles, and which party drove the economy into the toilet, when you try to raise money for your campaign and to explain why we should vote for the likes of you. Tax cuts for the rich + reckless spending on unprovoked wars = stinky economy.

    Aloha "ohiaforest3400" ~
Wow!!! Nicely written ... and mahalo for saying what MUST be said.

Insanity is defined by continuing to do something that fails over and over. We've followed insane policies for too long and look where we're at now. Our push for change must continue. Uncle Barack can't do it all by himself. It must be a coordinated effort starting at the grassroots.

    A*L*O*H*A

Djou a young gun? More like a broken water pistol; only hot air comes out.

Good to see Charles doing so well.

To, ohiaforest3400 and Mr. Goold. I applaud you both for your powers of discernment. There is definitely something wrong with the current system. There needs to be change and it should start here at home. Let's do a tally for fun: HI Senate - 23 Democrat and 2 Republican. HI House - 45 Democrat and 6 Republican. Well, this definitely doesn't resemble a bipartisan form of government to me. I think the future is bright for Hawaii as long as we can attain a bipartisan atmosphere in our legislature. I congratulate Charles on his status as a "Young Gun"! It shows how focused and passionate he is for helping bring "positive" change to our island home. Talk about change, look how long our current congressmen and congresswoman have sat in the seat of power. And look where we are now???
    Aloha,
    Frankie
